WhatsApp briefly stopped working last night, no one knows why and that is scary

Transparency is not exactly a strong trait with all Silicon Valley companies. This is one of the reasons why hours after WhatsApp stopped working on Wednesday night -- the problem was apparently fixed after a couple of hours -- we, the WhatsApp users, have no clue why from around 1.30am to around 4am in morning Indian users couldn't send or receive messages. The problem occurred worldwide so clearly there was something major that went wrong with WhatsApp, and although company acknowledged the issues, it did not explain what led to them.
